Overview

Oldoinyo Orok, also called Namanga Hills or “Black Mountain” in the Maasai language, is a dramatic volcanic mountain straddling the Kenya–Tanzania border near Namanga town.

Terrain: A mix of rocky outcrops, thick forested slopes, and open savannah at the base. The forest section is home to birds, monkeys, and sometimes buffalo.

Highlights: Sweeping views over Amboseli National Park, Kilimanjaro (on clear days), and the Tanzania–Kenya borderlands.

Cultural Significance: Sacred to the Maasai, who see it as a spiritual site; visitors are encouraged to be respectful of local customs.
